Founded in 1990 by two Contra Costa County nutrition staff members who saw the Meals on Wheels programs in the county consistently struggling to meet the demand for meals, Meals on Wheels Contra Costa was born out of a simple observation: government funding for home-delivered meals was never enough to reach every senior who needed one.

Together, they formed a nonprofit with a single purpose — closing that funding gap. Thirty-six years later, that purpose hasn’t changed.
Since our founding, we have raised more than $25 million and helped fund over 10 million meals for homebound seniors across Contra Costa County.

We remain the only organization in the county dedicated exclusively to funding the cost of meals themselves, ensuring our senior neighbors receive the nutrition they need to stay healthy and independent at home.
